A Red Orchid Theatre has announced its 2012-13 slate, marking the Old Town theater company's 20th season of shows.
The year begins in October with the world premiere of "The Opponent," penned by Brett Neveu, the writer with a long association with A Red Orchid. It's about the world of boxing.
In January, A Red Orchid will stage the first Chicago production of "The Aliens" by Annie Baker, directed by Shade Murray and featuring Steve Haggard.
In April, the first Chicago production of "In a Garden" by Howard Korder will feature the Chicago actor Larry Grimm. And, in June of 2013 and as previously reported in the Tribune, Dado will direct Michael Shannon and Guy Van Swearingen in "Simpatico" by Sam Shepard.
In a brief interview Tuesday, Shannon said that he and his real-life partner Kate Arrington, who is performing at the Steppenwolf Theatre in the Amy Herzog play "Belleville" at about that same time, plan to be in Chicago together for a good streatch of next summer, even as Shannon's new movie, "Man of Steel," is released.
