A Safe Place, a Waukegan not-for-profit shelter for battered women and their children, is moving from a rented 18-bed facility to reopen formally Oct. 15 at a 30-bed house. Sue Abderholden, resource development director, says the $1.25 million structure was built with donations of cash and services from firms including Deerfield architects O`Donnell, Wicklund, Pigozzi and Peterson. The shelter`s 24-hour phone line is 708-249-4450.
